Picota – Monchique

This walk will take place in the wooded area around the village of Monchique approximately 450m high. Eucalyptus and cork oaks are the predominant trees and this area, which is known for its culinary specialties such as Medronho, ham, Chouriça, Piri Piri chicken and much more. We are aiming to reach the peak of the second highest mountain in the Algarve, Picota (774m). Here we will enjoy spectacular views over the coastline and the numerous terraced fields which are used for the cultivation of fruits and vegetables. Especially during spring you can discover many different flowering plants like the rare Western Iberian Peony, yellow or white lupines and asphodels.
